Sifu Adam Mizner is making the point here that we don’t want to obsess about which direction the partner or opponent is going to go; but rather that we should train in a way that over time cultivates conditions inside out body that will work regardless of whether we are on time or late or they go left or they go right. It’s about the quality of your internal movement not ‘what’ you do. It reminds me of a saying he says: “It’s not what you do, it’s how you do it. And it’s not how you do it but who does it.”
